Population Health Promotion

During population health promotion activities, community health nurses work closely with relevant stakeholders such as faith-based organizations and government officials to facilitate the achievement of objectives. Their roles include applying epidemiologic knowledge to understand the distribution and determinants of diseases within a community and implementing programs to advocate for good health and wellbeing for populations (Green, n.d.). Moreover, it is the role of these nurses to carry out research and surveys to determine the perceived health status of a community. The findings are used to inform decisions on the most effective health promotion activities (‘Health reform,’ 2019). Community health nurses also provide population-focused care based on the identified needs within a society. They do so by incorporating dynamics that work for aggregate groups like families and extend to the entire population. Ultimately, through collaborations with key stakeholders, community health nurses formulate policies and design comprehensive interventions suitable for specific societies.

It is essential to appraise the resources within a society while conducting a community assessment as it helps to establish the value and credibility of a population (Green, n.d.). An appraisal also facilitates the identification of essential services and resources to support the execution of the community assessment. As a result, an appraisal can help to improve the quality of a population evaluation since by appraising resources, community health nurses and other stakeholders locate and exploit the most valuable health assets which would have otherwise been left out. The identified resources are vital in population health promotion as they are used to collect, analyze, and interpret information about a given community (‘About previous,’ 2019). The resultant findings facilitate prioritization of needs, planning for the health of populations and formulation of actions to address the pressing problems.
